Social media has made a big impact on todays society allowing millions of people to connect with each other and businesses to reach a wider audience. Many businesses have taken advantage of the social media platforms and have been able to gain more loyal customers. Two big companies that have taken advantage of social media are Apple and Samsung. These two companies are very successful competitors and use different strategies to promote their products.

Apple

Apple has a unique social media presence because they have a Facebook account and a Twitter account but don’t post have any posts and doesn’t follow anyone, not even the CEO. Even though they don’t post anything, Apple still has 9.7 million followers on Twitter and over 13 million on Facebook.

Where things get interesting is that Apple is very active on Instagram, posting several days a week and keeping their story updated. However, their content is mostly made up of user generated content or commissioned content created from users.

Apple’s strategy of limiting their social media posts across all platforms- even just not posting at all- proves that less is more. Using user-generated content on their Instagram brings a realness and relatability to other viewers, making them more inclined to purchase products knowing everyday people are using and staying loyal to the brand. This also makes teaches other companies to focus on quality rather than quantity.

Samsung

Very different from Apple, Samsung is extremely active on their social media accounts and even have multiple accounts. Some of the different accounts are Samsung India on Instagram and Twitter, Samsung Mobile on Instagram and Twitter, Samsung Mobile US on Twitter, etc. All of their accounts vary drastically in followers with the most being on Samsung India on Facebook with 162 million and the least being 1.4 million on Samsung Mobile on Instagram.

Samsung’s strategy is very different than Apple’s because Samsung doesn’t avoid any type of media formats and always posting videos, highlights, reels, stories, interactive post and engaging tweets. The specific content they post is also region based and posted on that region’s accounts. Different regions will have different offers, specific products and even different campaigns. This is unique because most brands are the same worldwide. They also capitalize on trends and interests, even having a campaign about which generation you are, saying “which Z are you?”

Although, Samsung and Apple have completely different strategies, they are both proven to be successful and each have their loyal customers and followers.

Personally, I’m a loyal Apple user.

Which brand are you loyal to?
